PC MAINTENANCE

LMUG Computer Academy

A 1 session/3 hour course for beginners and intermediate computer users, Sat., Feb 26, 10-1 PM

You have that great computer you bought a few months or years ago that was love at first sight.  Now you are heading to divorce court or trying to deep six it in the nearest body of water!

Well maybe the only thing this misbehaving electronic contraption needs is a little TLC!  Has the computer been running slowly, turning off as if it has a mind of its own, locking up when you need it the most?  Then this is the class for you.

Your computer has an environment called the operating system that needs utilities to keep it purring.  The same as your home needs utilities such as water, electric and gas to be inhabitable and happy so does the computer system.  In your computer if the environment is not functioning correctly than the inhabitants (your software & hardware) will revolt.

This one-day seminar will show you how to keep your system fine-tuned and the technician at bay.  You will learn what utilities to use, when to use them & the sequence in which to use them.  Find out what scandisk, defrag, anti-virus, CMOS backup, restore point and several other free utilities which are available to maintain that environment.

Digital Imaging

LMUG Computer Academy

A 3 session/4 hour course for beginners and intermediate computer users, Sat., Mar 5, 19, Apr 2,   10-2 PM

Designed for the novice and experienced photographer, this course is a  introduction to the magic you can make by using  21st C. Technology (computer equipment & programs) including Techniques for creating good –possibly great- digital images.

Digital technology has revolutionized the entire photographic industry, making millions of dollars worth of highly sophisticated equipment obsolete, and affecting all of us on a world-wide scale.  Don’t feel overwhelmed, confused or that you’re being left behind in the dust like a techno-dinosaur.

We’ll share the most effective techniques used to create excellent snapshots of your pets or grandkids, professional formal portraits, photos of your antiques for insurance purposes and  Junque to sell on e-Bay.  Or, you can stretch your creativity;  go wild — become a digital Artiste !

Cameras, Printers, Scanners, Software?   Learn what you really need to take, edit, store, manipulate, improve, correct, share, enlarge and print  your pictures, without breaking your budget.

Pixels?   What, exactly, is a Pixel, anyhow?  And, do I really need to know this?

Size?   Yes —size really does matter!  If you ever want to send an image via e-mail, make a wallet size print or an 11” x 14 enlargement,  then, YES!  It’s critical.  But, fear not –all will be revealed!

Fundamentals of Photography.  Learn of the essentials for making  fine photos, and how to digitally edit and enhance them to create beautiful and exciting images.
